The Gerald H. Phipps Center houses an accredited school program designed to meet the academic and behavioral needs of students. For children who are having difficulty achieving success in the public school setting, Tennyson Center for Children’s Education Program offers a continuum of education approaches to meet the behavioral and academic needs of students. In addition to the educational component offered through the residential and day treatment programs, Tennyson Center also offers an IDEAL program. Referral to this program is made through Denver Public Schools. The program runs for nine months from August through June. There is no time limit on enrollment. Some students may return to their home school within a matter of months, while others may need more time to improve. A summer program called “Challenge by Choice” offers experiential learning and offsite activities such as climbing Mount Elbert.

Components of the Education Program include:
- Evaluation, IEP and quarterly or bi-annual review of progress
- Highly-structured social learning environment
- Academic instruction designed to meet the student’s individual needs
- Pro-social skills training to help the child develop appropriate behaviors
- Transitional support to the family, student and public school personnel
- Development of student’s independent learning skills
- Low student-to-staff ratio
- Parents encouraged to be involved in the educational activities
