Feeling lost and alone, they stand in the entrance of Tennyson Center for Children not only battered in mind and spirit, but also tattered and torn in their appearance.
This is how so many of the children first arrive at Tennyson Center. Few have ever had new clothes and even fewer have ever experienced the American ritual of back-to-school shopping.
For the kids at Tennyson Center, a major part of the journey on the path to healing is the development of self-esteem and a quick way to rebuild self-esteem is with new clothes. After all, clothes take on a special meaning for these children, often representing the security and love that has been missing in their lives.
We know you understand this. And so do our new friends at Kohl’s in Lakewood, CO. This August, Kohl’s will open their doors exclusively to Tennyson Center for Children so that our kids will have the rare chance to shop for “back-to-school” clothes---a complete, brand new outfit!!! Additionally, they’ll give us a 15% discount on all items purchased on shopping day.
You can help make this day possible. You can either make a cash donation or you can purchase Kohl's gift cards in denominations of $10, $25 or $50.
Words cannot adequately describe the excitement felt by these children on shopping day. This will be a day that they will remember for the rest of their lives. It’s a day that lets them feel like other kids---kids who have never had to deal with the pain of abuse and neglect.
