Our teleseminars provide specialized low-cost training.
NCPCA serves as a national resource center for the field, the general public, and the media. Providing training and technical assistance to leaders in the child abuse field, notably those in the prevention area, is a central part of our work. Both the national office and NCPCA's network of chapters support the field with conferences, seminars, telephone consultations, teleseminar calls, and publications.
Use of teleseminars enables us to offer in-depth training when topics of special interest emerge. In 1995, we conducted a teleseminar series, in cooperation with the National Resource Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, designed to increase the effectiveness of the parenting skills training programs offered to families with children. The series focused on elements that make programs effective, as well as lessons learned in design and implementation.
Each year NCPCA sponsors Leadership Conference. Chapter staff, boards, professionals, and volunteers working in the prevention field convene to participate in a continuum of shared learning on the latest trends in the field, innovative programming, quality management, and leadership development. In 1995, the conference merged with the annual HFA Conference for a special in-depth examination of the importance of home visitation as a nationwide solution to preventing child abuse.
Recognizing that maintaining program quality requires appropriate training and technical assistance, NCPCA continued to conduct "Train the Trainers Institutes." In 1995, training was offered at two institutes. Professionals from the fifty states were prepared to train and support HFA sites primarily within their states. Specifically, HFA trainers provide on-site training to direct service providers, supervisors, and program mangers. In 1995, more than 70 communities providing HFA services received on-site training from NCPCA, bringing the total number of HFA sites to 155 by the end of 1995. As of October 1996, the number of sites has increased to 231 and is continually growing.
We work closely with chapters and HFA partners, providing
technical assistance and resources.
We continued to send critical assistance materials electronically and by mail to our chapter network and HFA partners. These mailings summarized the latest research, described upcoming conferences, and generally offered up-to-date information on activities in the prevention movement.
Professionals using the latest knowledge can find solutions.
