The Prevent
Child Abuse America Chapter Network is comprised of 52 organizations that
serve as leaders in their states on child abuse prevention and family support.
Most of our chartered Chapters, located in virtually all 50 states, are active
on state and community levels in public awareness and education, advocacy, programs,
and community-based strategies. All Chapters are governed by volunteer Boards
of Directors and most are staffed by professionals in the field. Although a
wide scope of services are provided by our Chapters; some of the more common
activities include:
- Leadership in the Healthy Families
America initiative to work towards collaboratively providing support
and services to all new parents for an extended period of time;
- Advocacy efforts to support families
through state legislation and the setting of public policy, parent
support, and education activities to help strengthen the family;
- Child Abuse Prevention Month in
April to increase community and state awareness of the different
ways we each can have a role in preventing child abuse;
- 1-800-Children line to engage
the public in community volunteer efforts to prevent child abuse;
- The Blue Ribbon Campaign to alert
communities to the issue of child abuse;
- The Don't Shake the Baby Campaign
to increase awareness of the serious dangers of shaking
babies;
- Parents Anonymous programs to
provide support and education to those who fear they might hurt
their children;
- The First Steps program to greet
new parents at the birth of their child;
- Help lines or warm lines to provide
crisis intervention and/or parenting education;
- Coordination or sponsorship of
statewide child abuse prevention conferences; and
- Serving as resource centers for
the community or state on prevention issues.
Please contact each Chapter
directly to learn more about the expertise, programs, and services available
in that state.
