Prevention Partners

This year was significant not only for the progress we made but also for the many special donors and friends who showed concern for abused children by providing financial assistance or donating time and talent to NCPCA. Without their support, NCPCA's dramatic achievements during 1995 would not have been made possible. For their selfless contributions, we thank them wholeheartedly.

Many concerned citizens and organizations generously renewed their special support in 1995. Specials thanks go to Ronald McDonald House Charities for their ongoing $2 million pledge to Healthy Families America (HFA) and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for their $2.3 million pledge to build HFA pilot sites onto the existing Cooperative Extension System. Both are providing critical support for HFA efforts across the country. We also gratefully acknowledge the Freddie Mac Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and the William Penn Foundation for their continued support of special research activities this year. Very special thanks also go to the Freddie Mac Foundation for their $250,000 challenge grant for the Healthy Families North Lawndale pilot site. We are pleased to add the Hasbro Children's Foundation to our roster of significant supports. Their $150,000 pledge will provide much needed HFA services in the North Lawndale community of Chicago over the next three years.

Specials thanks go to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Dutch Boy Paints Division of the Sherwin-Williams Company for their combined promotion which raised $100,000 for NCPCA's HFA initiative. An additional thank you goes to the NBA for their very generous support of NCPCA through the development of special public service announcements, aired during the 1995 basketball playoff games. In addition, NCPCA's Arizona Chapter was the charitable beneficiary of the NBA's 1995 All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.

We are very grateful to Alberto-Culver for designating NCPCA as the recipient of a special $50,000 gift in 1995. We also thank the Combined Insurance Company of America for its special promotion in honor of Donna Stone that raised over $25,000 in support of our efforts. In 1995, Liz Claiborne, Inc. not only renewed its very generous support of NCPCA through a holiday gift but also made an additional annual fund contribution. And we send our warm appreciation to Kappa Delta and Sigma Delta Tau sororities for their continued commitment and generous support of our activities.

We are grateful to the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, Target Stores, the Polk Family Charitable Fund, the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation, the William Wrigley Jr. Company Foundation, the W.P. and H.B. White Foundation, the Polk Bros. Foundation, the Sara Lee Foundation, the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation, the Pritzker Cousins Foundation, and the Prudential Foundation for their generous support. We also gratefully acknowledge our special automotive partners, the Chrysler Corporation Fund, the Ford Motor Company Fund, and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

In 1995, thousands of individuals joined NCPCA's family of supporters in the battle against the abuse and neglect of our nation's children. To all who shared their prosperous year with children in need, and to those who made us part of their Living Trusts, we are grateful.

We are especially grateful to those who support the Campaign for Healthy Families. Thanks go to Leland Brendsel of the Freddie Mac Corporation for pledging $2.5 million and to Mr. and Mrs. J. Michael Hester for pledging $50,000 to ensure the successful launch of the Campaign.

Thanks to those who provided in-kind expertise and services. We appreciate the time and energy Mercer Management Consulting, Inc. expended in facilitating the organizational audit of NCPCA. Their efforts will be beneficial to this organization for years to come. Special thanks go to the Advertising Council, Inc., which makes the national media campaign possible, to Bayer Bess Vanderwarker for the creative work they donated, to our volunteer Campaign Coordinator, Ronald Cox, and to the 3M Corporation who reproduced and packaged NCPCA's media campaign materials and produced the annual report distributed in Spring 1995. We also thank the law firm of Latham and Watkins for continuing to provide pro bono legal assistance to us, including priceless advice, guidance, and counsel.

Heartfelt thanks to Kathleen Myalls and the Chicago Board of NCPCA for another successful Gold and Silver Ball. Congratulations once again go to our honorees, First Lady of Illinois, Brenda Edgar and Chris Zorich of the Chicago Bears. We are very grateful to American Airlines for their continued and very generous support of the Ball, HFA, and NCPCA. We also are tremendously appreciative of Mr. and Mrs. W. Clement Stone's continued commitment to the prevention of child abuse.

Many thanks to Howard Goldstein and his colleagues for another very successful Wine and Spirits Reception. And congratulations again to Frank Arcella, 1995 Man of the Year. Thanks go to Terry Stewart and Marvel Entertainment Group for hosting a special auction to benefit NCPCA. In 1995, J. Michael Hester and friends also held the second annual Prevent Child Abuse Golf Classic to benefit NCPCA--many thanks for a terrific event.

Lastly, to the many thousands of new philanthropic partners, thank you for placing your trust in us, and to our many long time friends, your continued display of trust in the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse is most appreciated.
