Summer School Program
Our summer school program ensures that our students maintain and continue to build on the academic, social and emotional growth they make during our traditional school year.  All summer school classes are taught by licensed teachers who incorporate traditional classroom based academic and social skills instruction with community based experiential learning opportunities to enhance students’ academic knowledge and for students’ to practice their social skills.

During the summer, our students reinforce what they learn in the classroom with a variety of relevant community based field trips.  These field trips not only reinforce content knowledge but also provide a place for the students to practice their social skills in a less structured and more relevant environment. The following are just a few examples of programming our students may take part in during summer school: Dinosaur Ridge, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Phoenix Gold Mine, the Aquarium, and the Olympic Training Center.

Your donations helped us launch programs like Reading Plus® which develops and enhances the skills necessary for proficient comprehension-based silent reading - the kind of reading required in the 21st century classroom and workplace. Through individualized instruction, the program builds reading rate, comprehension, and capacity, the key ingredients for success in college and careers.  Our ultimate goal is to see each of our students gain and MAINTAIN the academic and social skills they need in order to be successful in their community school and in life.  Without the support of our summer school program many of our students would regress and come back to us in the fall with fewer skills than they had when they left us in the spring.

On behalf of the students participating in the summer school program we would like to thank you for your support!

Challenge by Choice
Challenge by Choice focuses on creating an experiential education environment outside the classroom. Children have the opportunity to participate in a summer journey that helps them reach their highest potential. Helping abused children overcome poor self-esteem, low self-confidence, the inability to build appropriate social relationships, and poor sportsmanship is paramount to the healing process. The Challenge by Choice adventure-based program provides new and different experiences while incorporating traditional wilderness education including canoeing, rafting, camping, service projects and hiking, including ascending Colorado’s tallest mountain Mt. Elbert.

Back to School Shopping Spree
In early August, every child in our residential program will travel to a local Target store for our annual Back-to-School shopping spree where, with the help of their accompanying volunteer, they will pick out an entire new outfit for the new school year. It will cost us $165 per child for one new outfit. Clothe a child
